My Heart Isn’t In It…

My heart isn’t in it …..

It’s possible that I’ve said this phrase a few times before in my life, but when I said it the other day in reference to a situation in my life, it hit differently. It stopped me in my tracks….

Have you ever uttered this phrase either to yourself or someone else?

What does it mean for your heart to be in it? If you do a quick web search on “living from the heart instead of the head” there are many articles that can explain (I see you, Oprah!). Simply, it means that we stop to pause and try to check in with how we feel instead of what we think. The thoughts can still support, but it’s the feelings within you that are trying to tell you something.

If we think about our authentic selves, where do we point to? More often than not we point to our chest or heart. This is where our clearest voice comes from. The one who guides us with the purest intention. So if our “heart isn’t in it”, then wouldn’t that mean that the most authentic part of ourselves isn’t in it? And if that is the case, why are we doing it?

These are the questions that stopped me in my tracks. Language matters. Even if it’s a phrase we’ve said 100 times before, it could be pointing you to something. Take a moment to think what that something might be. It could change your path altogether.
