Midnight Settles Dark Shadows

A poem about facing our own dark shadows
by Brooke Boser

Midnight settles dark shadows
I used to be afraid of the dark
Its cold, lonely void

I ran, like my lineage before me
Away from anything uncomfortable
Hoping someone would save me

There is no moon in that direction
No light. No saviour.
The wound just gets deeper. Darker.

Midnight settles dark shadows
And now the dark calls to me
“Come in. Come know me.

I am nothing but a place you left behind,
A place you used to love,
A place you used to know.

I am everything you always wanted
A friend, a comfort, a love.
I am your deepest knowing.”

Midnight settles dark shadows
And I find myself within them
Ready to reclaim my light.
